Since 2007 we've been able to provide the following to the orphanage:
-Mosquito nets (enough for all of the children to share with extra remaining in case of rips or tears).
-Electricity
-$300/month for food items, firewood for cooking, hospital fees, buying clean water, etc.
-A 30 x 30 metre cement enclosure on new property, the future plot of land for the Providence Orphanage.
- Paid school fees for 2009-2010. (While primary school remains free for all primary students in Benin, any upper year classes have fees. Also even primary students are required to buy uniforms and books).
-Clothing & Hand-made quilts to use for cushioning while sleeping on the ground.
The following are goals we are hoping to achieve:
-Build cement dormitories. This is our next fundraising effort. In total it will cost around $71,000 Canadian dollars!
-Continue to pay school fees/hospital fees.
-Eventually help the orphanage become self-sufficient. Whether through gardening, or breeding pigs, we are hoping that eventually we won't have to send monthly donations to the orphanage, that they will be completely self-sustained.
